Testimonials regarding the upcoming Bond Issue...

"If Westlake schools can bring this project in on budget, voters will get exceptional value for their investment, with three key schools either newly built or revamped."

The Plain Dealer

April 25, 2010

"I have three daughters that have graduated (or will soon graduate!) from Westlake Schools. Each has found success in college and I credit their success to the exemplary education received through the Westlake City Schools. The educational programs have always pushed my daughters to excel and have offered them every opportunity to strive to better themselves. My daughters have been gifted with a future because the Westlake Schools have given them the chance to achieve anything they strive for."

Matt Daghstani
Westlake Parent and Resident

"Westlake schools may look fine but the problems are well documented. Issue 14 starts fixing the problems and means excellent school buildings for today's educational needs."

Dr. David H. Love, D.V.M., A.B.V.P.
Long Time Westlake Resident

My husband and I chose to move to Westlake in 2001 due to the Westlake City Schools' reputation for excellence.

As a long time educator and administrator, I know that it is possible to maintain high student achievement with poor facilities in the short run, but not in the long run. As our buildings' deficiencies grow, so do the barriers to learning. Research has shown that a strong school system will help maintain property values while a weak system will cause them to fall.

I am extremely proud of the two year process used to evaluate and analyze the data, prioritize our needs and propose a long-term, cost effective plan to address our district's serious facilities issues. I am encouraged by the vision
that, together with our community, we have established.

Please join me in supporting our students and their learning. On May 4th vote YES on Issue 14!

Carol Winter,
President, Westlake Board of Education

"My wife Lori and I have two daughters who had the benefit of excellent educations through the Westlake schools. Having been involved in the city and in the school system for over 23 years, I have an appreciation for what is necessary to provide the same type of excellence for the children of other families in our city. This is a worthwhile investment both for the school system, the taxpayer and for the city's children."

John Wheeler
Law Director, City of Westlake

"As a resident, parent and business leader of Westlake, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of strong, up-to-date excellent schools.

As our suburbs continue to expand westward, Westlake must continuously re-invest and reinvent itself. Updated schools will keep and attract families to our community. Westlake Schools have been rated 'Excellent' for the past 11 years and 'excellent with distinction' last year.

Now, we are asked to support Issue 14 because our school facilities are in serious need of repair and without Issue 14 those costs jeopardize that excellence.

I was co-chair for the 2006 Operating Levy. I got involved because we as community leaders need to support our schools. Not only for the future growth of our children, but also for the growth of our community.

I urge you to vote for Issue 14 because it's the right thing to do for our kids and our city."

Bill Baddour
Westlake Resident

"In 1996, we were asked to renovate and expand the schools. That investment by the community was to allow for modernization and growth and would carry us through building requirements until the year 2003. It is safe to say that promises were kept and more. I am sure of this because I was the BOE President from 1996 through 2000.

It is now 2010, fourteen years later, and we are again asked to invest in Westlake's future. Our last investment (1996) results produced 11 consecutive years of our children performing at the highest 5% level in the state of Ohio. Children, parents, staff and taxpayers all delivered.

We have seen the results of our previous investments. We are now asked again to invest in the schools. As we all know, to compete we need the proper tools. As a community, we must supply the tools of safe, efficient facilities and provide the environment for the children to continue to excel at the levels they have these past 11 years. It is a brick and mortar investment for their future and one which will provide talent for our future as well.

Westlake schools have long been one of the best reasons why the City of Westlake is a great community to live in, work and raise a family. It is an investment with long term results."
